Parent Dedication

Next Date will be announced soon!

Parent Dedication is a first step in our faith community at Hillside Church for parents to formally declare their intent to instruct their children to know the Lord in conjunction with our congregation’s pledge to model Christ before their children.  In Psalm 127, verses one and three, we are told,

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain…Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.”

Parents are entrusted by God to be the primary spiritual caregivers, tasked with the responsibility for teaching and equipping their children in the faith – the church functions as a support and encourager to the parents.  Parent Dedication at Hillside Church represents a time of thanksgiving for God’s gift of children, as well as the public affirmation of the solemn responsibility for parents to teach the next generation.

Our goal is to support parents to follow the commands given in Deuteronomy 6: 4-6,

“Hear, O Israel:  The LORD our God, The LORD is one.  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

Hillside Church invites families to participate in a special service to express formally these fundamental principles taught throughout God’s Word.

  • • Parent Dedication is a brief ceremony within our regular Sunday worship service where you, as parents, make a public commitment to raise your child(ren) in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

    • The body of Christ represented at Hillside Church pledges to encourage and support parents as they endeavor to raise their children according to God’s Word. The church will strive to model Christ’s example for the next generation.

    • Parent Dedication is a time to pray corporately for the salvation of your child.

    • Parent Dedication does not in any way secure salvation for your child. Hillside Church affirms that salvation comes through faith exercised in Jesus Christ alone through the hearing of the Word of God. Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.”

Parent Dedication is scheduled periodically at Hillside Church, and upcoming services will be announced to allow parents to sign up for the event.
