Our Core Values

Hillside’s core values are our roadmap as we implement our mission to “Be One. Bring One. Build One”. These characteristics express our heart and define our ministries.

Expository Preaching: 2 Timothy 4:2. “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”

We aim to build one person at a time to maturity in Christ through the preaching of God’s Word.

Glorifying Worship: Psalm 100: 1-3 “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!

Our Story

Hillside Church began in 1953, and has been serving the San Jose, California, area for over 60 years. Starting in a fruit shed on Lincoln Avenue in the now affluent Willow Glen area, Hillside’s early beginnings brought 23 charter members together. After twenty-five years meeting at Newport Avenue in Willow Glen, land was purchased in 1977, and construction began on our current property at 545 Hillsdale Avenue. Our present Worship Center was completed in 1977.

Origins: From its founding 60 years ago until today, Hillside Church champions its vision to serve the community through bold, biblical preaching, and evangelism.

Leadership: Throughout its multi-decade history, Hillside Church has been led by just four pastors. In this recent era, the pastoral team consistently brings a reformed and evangelistic approach to on of the most secular areas in the United States.

Community Outreach: Hillside Church maintains an outward focus, offering family ministries, adult fellowships, community involvement, and annual events to reach out to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Growth: In 2022, City Light Bible Church was launched as a church plant in the Santa Clara area, with its mission to be a light to the unchurched in that community. Hillside also focuses on church revitalization within the neighboring communities.

Hillside is grateful to God for for His ongoing work as we have the privilege to serve Him here in Silicon Valley.
